TWEAK TO THE SCHEDULE HAS BEEN DONE. IT EFFECTS NONE OF THE REGULAR 4
IN 1 CLASSES. BUTLER HAS ADDED THE MINI SPRINT CLASS TO 4 NIGHTS OF THE
REGULAR 4 IN 1 SHOWS, TO MAKE THEM 5 IN 1 SHOWS. DATES FOR THOSE SHOWS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
MAY 19 JUNE 23 JULY 28 SEP 1 MINI SPRINTS MAKE FIRST STOP OF 2012 AT BUTLER ON MAY 19TH On May 19th,
the lightning fast 600cc Mini Sprints will be making the first
appearance of many during the 2012 season. For those who don't know much
about the mini sprints, they are a smaller version of a full size
sprint car running 600cc motorcycle engines. The mini sprints are a
great stepping stone for the younger generation. Many kids have started
in the minis and moved on to sprints, midgets, late models, etc. Even
the mid and older generation can run them and have a blast at a portion
of the cost of many other forms of
racing.
Also, the 19th
will culminate the return of Denny Donaldson behind the wheel of a mini
sprint after being retired from racing for over 20 years. He will be
racing against many other racers who have previous racing ventures or
family ties to Butler Motor Speedway. Included in that list is his son,
3rd generation racer, Derek, who was last years winner and main promoter
of the 600's coming to Butler.

Other dates for the minis are June 23rd, July 28th, Sept. 1st and the Friday portion of the Butler 3 Day Spectacular.
More dates may be added in the future. So come out and support this
group of racers. You can even check out these cars first hand with a pit
pass. They are a great addition to our already stellar class of cars.
WHO WILL BE THE FIRST EVER MINI SPRINT POINTS CHAMPION OF BUTLER MOTOR SPEEDWAY?
We are all about to find out. See you at the track.
HORTSMAN, BAILEY, WILBER AND GARRETT ALL GRAB FEATURE CHECKERS
Jared Hortsman in Winged Sprint Cars, Jordan Bailey in UMP
Modifieds, Tim Wilber in Sportsman and Chris Garrett in Street Stocks were all
feature winners on May 12. On a night
that looked like mother nature was going to capture her second night of the young
season, it was the racers and fans who were treated to a good night of
racing. With a light sprinkle in hot
laps, the night would clear in time for the racing events.
The first feature to
hit the track would be the Street Stock feature with Jeff Hinkley and John Ruby
bringing the field to green. The initial
start would be a botched start and see the cars of Bob Rendel and Zach Hiser
suffer mechanical woes and retire for the night. On the restart, it would take little time for
defending champion Chris Garrett to jump out front. The race would slow for a Charles Smith
spin. Back under green, Garrett would
run to his first feature win of the 2012 season. Jake Rendel, Brian Judd, Dustin Hyliard and
Terry Bumpus would round out the top 5.
Heat races went to Hyliard, Jake Rendel, and Bob Rendel.
A huge field of UMP
Modifieds were on hand and as the feature rolled out onto the track, the rain
opened up for a few minutes. Track
officials made the decision to wait 15 minutes and see if the rain stopped. A few minutes later Jordan Bailey and Josh
Lolmaugh would bring the field to the green flag. Lolmaugh would jump to the lead and see a lap
2 yellow for a spinning Trevor Sloan slow the race. Sloan with a broken front end would retire
for the night. Back under green with
Lolmaugh leading and the yellow flew on lap 3 for contact and a spin by Steve
Shellenberger. On the restart, the
yellow would fly again as Corey Bevard would roll to a stop in turn 4. Back under green with Lolmaugh leading, the
yellow would fly on lap 10 for a Jacob Bailey spin. Mark Anderson had moved around Jordan Bailey
and into 2nd with Bailey 3rd and Rich Robinson Jr in 4th. Back under green, the yellow flew for contact
between Bailey and Jason Trennepohl, ending the night for Bailey. Back to green and Lolmaugh would hold off Anderson until the yellow
flew on lap 15 for a spinning Steve Shellenberger, ending his night. On the restart Lolmaugh and Anderson would
make contact in turn 1 spinning Lolmaugh off turn 2. With Lolmaugh and Anderson at the tail,
Jordan Bailey would take over the point and set up a battle between Bailey and
Robinson Jr. A lap 19 caution for debris
would set up a shoot out for the win. At
the stripe it would be Bailey with the win, followed by Robinson Jr. Mike Tarlton, Tommy Beezley and Jake Rendel
would round out the top 5. Heat races
went to Lolmaugh, Tim Wilber, Trevor Sloan and Steve Shellenberger. B main wins went to Doug McLachlan and Eric
Swan.

The Winged Sprint
car feature would roll out and see Chris Jones and Chad Hart bring the field to
green with Jones getting the lead. A lap
3 yellow for Marques Huffer rolling slow down the front stretch would slow the
field. Third place starting Jared
Hortsman would get by Jones and lead until a late race yellow for Brett Mann
stopping by the pits. A yellow would fly
for a spinning Greg Wheeler, collecting Joe Geibe and Billy Jacoby. At the checkered it would be Hortsman winning
over a hard charging 12th starting Chad Blonde. Len Robison, Jones and Ryan Ruhl would round
out the top 5. Hortsman, who a week
earlier turned over onto the top wing on lap 1, was jubilant in victory lane
climbing up to the wing of his car. Heat
race wins went to Mann, Max Stambaugh, Hortsman and Wheeler. B mains went to
Shelby Bilton and Ryan Kirkendall.
The Sportsman
feature would be the last feature to roll out and see Jake Rendel and Tim
Wilber bring the field to green. Wilber
would get to the lead and the race would be slowed late for Chris Garrett
rolling to a stop at the exit of turn 4.
Back to green ad the defending Sportsman champion would gather his first
feature win of the year ahead of Rendel.
Dwayne Feltner, Fred VanEvey and Steve Langdon would round out the top
5. Heat race wins went to Wilber and Rendel.
A huge thanks goes
out to the Modified drivers who helped pack the track at the beginning of the
night.
Promoters Bob and
Karen Garrett would like to thank the fans and drivers who braved the weather
to come out to the speedway. While we
did have a few sprinkles before the UMP Modified feature, we were able to run
the full program.
Coming up on May 19
the Mini Sprints will join the full 4 in 1 program of Winged Sprint Cars, UMP
Modifieds, Sportsman and Street Stocks to make it a full 5 in 1 program for the
same price as the 4 in 1 show. The pits
have been packed, the crowds have been good and the racing has been intense at
the 3/8 mile speedplant.
