2019 Butler Speedway Sprint Car Rules

      1. All of the following are subject to inspection.
      2. BOTTOM RAILS: Must be minimum 1 3/8″ diameter x .095 thickness or 1″ diameter x .083 thickness.
      3. BRACE: Must be minimum 1″ diameter x .065 thickness.
      4. REAR END SAFETY BAR: Rear safety bar is a mandatory piece. Must be a minimum of 1″ diameter x .083 thickness.
      5. ROLL CAGE TOP CROSS MEMBERS: Must be a minimum 1″ diameter x .095 thickness.
      6. ROLL CAGE UPRIGHTS: Must be a minimum 1 3/8″ diameter x .083 thickness.
      7. TOP RAILS: Must be a minimum 1″ diameter x .095 thickness
      8. UPPER RAILS: Must be minimum 1 3/8″ diameter x .083 thickness.
    1. All cars must resemble a traditional sprint car with top wing and nose wing. Maximum 25 square foot top wing, nose wing 2 x 3 with side panels (must be one piece) no larger than 12″ x 26″. Center foil must be one piece and no wider than 60″, with maximum sideboard 30″ x 72″. No kick outs. Maximum 3″ wicker bill. No split wings or bi-wings are allowed. Top wing must not extend beyond outside of rear tires. Maximum dish 2″. No turnouts or any other foils allowed. Two stationary foils or rudders will be allowed to run the entire length of the underneath portion of top wing. Maximum height proportions are 1″ at the front and 3″ at the rear. Nowhere shall the foil exceed 3″ in height. Leading edge of nose wing must be 20″ from leading edge of front axle.
    2. The use of a flat wing you can run up to a 2 inch wicker bill.
    3. Curved wing of any kind no wicker bill will be permitted.
    4. Drag links and tie rods must utilize 4130 steel of at least 1.125″ outside diameter and .058-wall thickness. Heim ends for both parts must be made of steel only. A magnet must stick at all times. No wedging of the tubing will be allowed.
    5. Drilling of any bolts, fasteners or heims ends is prohibited.
    6. No carbon fiber or composite materials allowed.
    7. No filing of frame rails, nerf bars or bumpers. No solid steel nerf bars or bumpers.
    8. No part of the car can extend past front bumper, with bumper no more than 23″ from front and rear axle. No body pieces to extend beyond or underneath front torsion tube except hood.
    9. No pieces may be added to the basic fame so as to resemble, imitate, or be specifically designed to deflect, trap, or form a windbreak of any nature, except those used to cool or protect the motor and breaking system.
    10. No wedges or foils underneath race car.
    11. The drivers right side opening must be a minimum 10″ vertical opening at any point and a minimum 21″ horizontal opening at any point. Body panels or sheet metal may extend reward to triangular bar at back of roll cage and may extend downward past shock mount to horizontal bar at driver’s compartment. No gurney lips or turnouts are allowed on any body panels. Bottom frame rails behind driver’s seat cannot be enclosed. Hoods may be a multiple piece design, but must appear to be one continuous piece.
    12. Titanium brake controls are allowed. Titanium is NOT allowed on chassis construction, front and rear axles, steering arms, torsion arms, bumpers or nerf bars.
    1. Drive line hoop or strap is mandatory.
    2. Drive line hoop should be steel and welded or bolted in.
    3. Has to be center line of chassis.
    4. Must be completely enclosed.
    1. Open engine rule, 410 max.
    1. Minimum sizes 2″ x .156 or 2″ x .120 or 2 3/8″ x .095 0r 2″ x .095
    2. Must be steel only.
  6. FUEL
    1. Fuel bladders, are mandatory.
    2. No blowers.
    3. No nitrous oxide (NOS).
    4. No smaller than 24-gallon fuel tank allowed at anytime (27 gallon or larger fuel tank recommended).
    5. No turbo chargers.
    1. 5 point harness must have manufactured tag with date not to exceed 3 years old. Belts must be installed to manufacturer’s specifications.
    2. All cars must have a full containment racing seat that is attached directly to roll cage.
    3. All cars must run a window net on driver’s side that latches at the top is mandatory.
    4. An operational 2 and a half pound minimum fire extinguisher with gauge visible for inspection purpose is mandatory.
    5. Arm restraints.
    6. Drag link safety strap.
    7. Flame retardant diver suit. Must be minimum of 2 layers
    8. Flame retardant racing gloves.
    9. Flame retardant shoes.
    10. Head rest padding.
    11. Inside of roll cage must have protection padding where head can make contact.
    12. Mandatory 1/8 inch steel plate for drivers door.
    13. Right head net or support, head net equipped with a quick release capability
    14. SNELL SA 2000 approved helmet with sticker no more than 8 years old. (In 2020 sticker must be dated after 2012)
    15. Some type of neck restraint device must be worn at all time on the track. Neck collar, Hans devise, D-cell or G-force.
    1. Anything new or experimental must be approved by Butler Speedway Officials in advance of race date.
    1. Minimum 1″ diameter, .065 thickness.
    2. Must be steel or stainless only.
    3. Nerf bars are mandatory and must be steel or stainless steel only.
  10. TIRES
    1. Butlers tire rule is the same as the All Star Sprint Series. Only the following Designated Hoosier Tires will be permited on any location specified on the race car.
      1. FRONTS
        1. 85/8.0-15 D12, D15, D20
      2. LEFT REAR:
        1. 15.0/90-15 H12
        2. 15.0/92-15 H12, H15
        3. 15.0/94-15 H12, H15
        4. 15.0/96-15 H12, H15
      3. RIGHT REAR:
        1. 105/16.0-15 H15, H20, W18, MEDIUM.
    1. The penalty for having traction control will be loss of money and points for the night.
    2. Traction control devices are strictly prohibited.
  12. WEIGHT
    1. Car and driver are weighed as one unit, with driver seated inside the car.
    2. Car with driver cannot weigh less than 1375 pounds at the end of feature.
    3. If found light your car and driver will forfeit all points and money for all of that nights racing events and be disqualified from any finish.
    4. If weight is lost during a race, the car will be black-flagged.
    5. It is your responsibility to remove mud before any weigh-in.
    6. Track scales govern all cars!!!
    7. Weight, if added must be bolted to mainframe and have car number on it.

2019 General Rules

  1. The rules and/or regulations set forth herein do not express or imply warranty of safety from publication of or compliance with these rules and/or regulations; they are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury.
  2. All drivers must have a RACEceiver one way communication device.
  3. Appearance
    1. Numbers with letters are allowed. Letters are to be made large enough to be visible from the scoring tower.
    2. Numbers must measure minimum of 22 inches high by a minimum of 15 inches in width. The thickness of the number must be no less than 3 inches.
    3. Color of the number must be contrasting with the car color.
    4. Numbers must be located on both doors and the roof of the car. Put the roof number so it can be read from the tower when the car is on the front stretch.
  4. Conditions
    1. No alcoholic beverages or controlled substances are to be consumed before or during races by anyone entering the pit area.
    2. Butler Motor Speedway officials reserve the right to reject or allow the entry of any driver or car.
    3. Rule changes or interpretation of rules is at the discretion of track officials.
    4. The decision of track officials is final.
    5. Suspensions will be strictly enforced for fighting or any other acts the management of Butler Motor Speedway deem inappropriate. Any actions that need be will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
  5. Race Lengths
    1. All Heat Races will be 8 Laps in distance or 6 minutes.
    2. A Main Features
      1. Due to length of time and yellows a race has been on the track, features could be cut short on laps, this will be at the discretion of Track Officials.
      2. Front Wheel Drive: TBA
      3. Modifieds: 20 Laps
      4. Sprints: 25 Laps
      5. Street Stocks: 20 Laps
  6. Race Procedures
    1. Typically a maximum of 20 cars will start the A Main.
    2. Butler Motor Speedway officials due to time or car count factors may shorten races.
    3. Driver must attempt to start A or B main to be eligible for start money.
  7. Racing Rules
    1. At no time shall any non-competing member, crew member, owner or other person associated with a race car be permitted on the racing surface following the start of a race and prior to the final lap without the express permission of a Speedway official. Failure to do so could lead to immediate removal from speedway property. This rule is in place for your crew members safety.
    2. Butler Motor Speedway officials reserve the right to request a doctor's release at any time, for a said driver to participate at Butler Motor Speedway.
    3. Driver and car changes are permitted only prior to the official start of a race. The official start of a race is when the field enters the track. When determining the official start, one lap does not have to be completed. However, scoring for position does not begin until one green flag lap has been completed. All cars will need to enter the track under their own power to get start money and points. After that point, no change of drivers is permitted. Driver changes may occur only if the driver is qualified for that said race. Any drivers making a change will go to the tail of the field. Points earned will be awarded to the driver starting the race. If a driver wishes to change cars prior to the event start, only the driver or crew chief is allowed to inform the official of the change prior to the start of the race. If this does not occur, the driver will forfeit all points and payout earned in the event. NO EXCEPTIONS.
    4. On a yellow or red flag that happens on the start of a race, any car(s) that enter the pits will go to the tail of the field, even though a lap has not been completed. All repairs or adjustments to cars must be made in the pits. This includes portions of the race run under yellow or red flag conditions. Violation will result in the car being placed at the rear of the field.
    5. Cars may only enter the track as directed from the pit steward.
    6. No electronic communication devices are permitted within the car other then RACEceivers.
    7. If a driver refuses the officials order to take a certain position on the track (i.e. go to the back of the field), resulting in a delay of the race, he/she will be penalized one lap or will be Black-flagged.
    8. When the black flag has been displayed to a racecar, scoring of the car shown the flag will stop until the car returns to the track from the pits after the required consultation.
    9. A driver meets rookie qualifications for his/her division if he/she raced in four or fewer races in a single previous season in that division.
  8. Starts and Restarts
    1. Jumping on initial start of any event: The front row will have two chances to start a race. If either driver jumps both of these starts, the entire front row goes to the tail for the next attempt.
    2. If you jump a restart you will be put back the number of cars you jumped on the next yellow or penalized at the end of the race, whichever comes first.
    3. Lapped Cars
      1. Lapped cars will be placed at tail of the field for restarts in order of there running at the time of the caution.
  9. Yellow Flags
    1. If you are involved in an accident on the speedway at any time, you will be placed at the tail for the restart.
    2. If you are involved in 2 solo yellow flags during one race event, you will be disqualified from that event.
    3. If you are involved in a caution on the initial start, you will not receive your original starting spot back. You will go to the tail.
    4. At the discretion of the Track Officials if you stop to avoid an accident, you will get your spot back.
    5. The Tap Out Rule, if you are hit during the race and spin out and the driver that spins you taps on roof, you will get your spot back and the driver doing the spinning will go to tail.
    6. If a Track Officials pulls you over to look at car, pull fender out, etc. you will get your spot back as long as it is not part of an accident.
