Season Championships Ahead
Euler, Kurth, Wilber, Garrett take September 4 wins
Ken Mackey will take a 109 point lead into this Saturday's Season Championships following a sixth-place finish in the September 4 winged sprint feature. Scott Euler won his first career sprint car feature during the event, which saw other victories go to Mark Kurth (UMP Modifieds), Tim Wilber (sportsman), and Chris Garrett (street stocks). The Season Championships will have a fireworks display in honor of those that lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.
Mackey, who is aiming for his 10th track title, rebounded from a mishap on the start of the feature that saw Mark Broughman and Dan Hall flip. The early flip was just the start of the carnage in an event that saw at least six sprint cars get upside down. Mark Aldrich flipped early, rejoined the field, and would later flip again. A wild three-car flip also was part of the event, with Sean Robinson, Doug Zimmerman, and Greg Wheeler involved. The race was eventually shortened.
Ken Quimby produced a tremendous run, leading most of the race. Euler got by just prior to the white flag and Gary Fast also passed Quimby coming to the checker, relegating him to third. Chris Jones and Dustin Dinan (driving a 305 powered racer) were fourth and fifth. The rest of the top 10 were Mackey, Tim Evilsizer, Shelby Bilton, Zimmerman, and Gerry Hart. Mackey has 1,039 points entering this Saturday's final points race. Bilton and Zimmerman are seperated by just one point in the battle for second in the winged sprint standings.

Modified winner Mark Kurth
In the UMP Modifieds, Tommy Beezley is looking for his second-straight Butler points title. Beezley finished fourth, while points runner-up Josh Lolmaugh had trouble late in the feature and took 15th. The turn of events allowed Beezley to extend his lead in the standings to 29 points. Greg Socha is third in the standings and trails Beezley by 59 points.
Mark Kurth ruled the modified feature event to take his fifth Butler win, while Rich Robinson and Kevin Miller battled for second. Miller spent most of the race in the runner-up spot, but Miller got by late. Beezley and Jared Guinn made up the rest of the top five. Sixth through 10th were Mark Anderson, Dave Baker, John McClure, Steve Shellenberger, and Eric Swan. Modified heat races were won by Shellenberger, Guinn, Robinson, and Socha. The 'B' Main went to Anderson.
Sportsman division points leader Marty French suffered trouble for the second-straight week and saw his lead in the season-long standings fall to just 35 points over defending champion Logan Beckwith. French lost a wheel on the opening lap of the feature and was 14th in the finishing order, while Beckwith took third.
Tim Wilber led every lap of Saturday's feature. The race took three tries to get going; once underway Wilber assumed a good lead until last week's winner Jake Rendel and Beckwith came up to challenge in the final stages. At the checker it was Wilber, Rendel, Beckwith, Steve Langdon, and Cameron Hoaglin. The remainder of the top 10 were Wes Bates, Jay Davison, Scott Newsome, Bob Austin, and Dwayne Feltner. Heat race wins went to Wilber and Beckwith.
Street stock points leader Glenn Heath also had a rough night, dropping out early and finishing 20th. Keith Hiller finished in fourth and cut the margin to just 34 points in the standings. Chris Garrett and Jeff Beaty put on a great driving display at the front of the street stock field. Garrett led until being trapped behind a lapped car, allowing Beaty to slip by on the outside. But ironically, Beaty would later get held up by the same lapped car, letting Garrett reel him back in. After a door-to door battle Garrett eventually pulled ahead, then withstood a last lap challenge by Beaty. Bob Dooley was third, with Hiller fourth and Shawn McFeters fifth. Sixth through 10th were Jeremy Lutz, Joe Elliott, Sheryll Dishaw, Levi Collins, and Mike Elliott.
